Mainframe

These are the ultra-large, ultra-expensive computers used by airlines, large corporations, etc. They costs millions of dollars.

Mini Computer

Smaller versions of the mainframe technology are available for smaller companies but they are still
large and quite expensive.
Minis are much larger than PC's
but still smaller than mainframes.
Minis are increasingly being replaced by PC
"servers".

Microcomputer
(also called
"PC", "Personal Computer" or "Micro")

A computer designed for use by a single user, based on the high speed and low cost of the "microchip".

Laptop

|
A specialized microcomputer: smaller, portable, with optional battery power |
